Sleeping Beauty Castle

Today we leave Switzerland and head to Germany. The majority of the day was meant for travel. Our first stop in Germany was a town called Füssen. It’s a Bavarian town with a rich history that goes beyond its cobblestone roads and picturesque buildings. It has many castles in the area, but its two famous ones are Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau.

The two castles are located in a fairytale setting. If you’ve seen the Disney cartoon Sleeping Beauty, you will soon discover where Walt Disney's imagination came from. After a short bus ride to the outskirts of Füssen, we had a choice to make. We could do about a sixty-minute hike straight up to Neuschwanstein Castle, or we could take a horse-drawn carriage ride right out of the fairytale. Jon and I, being intelligent men, chose the fairytale ride, bringing smiles to our three lovely princesses. The coachman of our carriage ride sent out a special invite asking Kyra to sit next to him in the front of the carriage. In a fairytale world, could he be Prince Charming?

Once we reached the castle, it seemed even more grand. Unfortunately, we couldn’t tour inside but were able to take numerous pictures of the outside and inner courtyard. After spending some time playing around the castle, the sun was setting on another wonderful day traveling through Europe. It was time to get back before our carriage turned into a pumpkin.
